Cheerleaders: Running Wild and Free

Even as teams look to dodge weather, the cheerleaders are apparently enjoying the attention away from the Indian sub continent where they received flak last year.

The cheerleaders are once foreigners, only this time it is the IPL that is the foreigner. The IPL 2 has seen cheerleaders in shorter, sharper clothes and bolder moves. And yet surprisingly they have gone without a scanner but perhaps that has something to do with the IPL 2 being staged in South Africa instead of India.

The Royal Challengers stated earlier that their cheerleaders would now be Varsity girls under a brand new name White Mischief Gals, while the Kolkata Knight Riders tied up with a television network to pick six Indians girls through the reality show ‘Knights and Angels’.

The girls are apparently are enjoying the audience support instead of the scrutiny to which they were subjected which eventually led to the Daredevils dropping the idea of cheerleaders altogether. But South Africa, the rain bow nation, is more tolerant of the shenanigans that accompany the Twenty20 brand and it is perhaps why the cheerleaders are no longer the subject of ridicule or unwanted, hostile gaze.
