Everything about the West Indies cricket seems to be in suspended animation. And it appears that the case applies to Chris Gayle as well.

Chris Gayle lost the West Indies captain prior to West Indies' tour of Sri Lanka to Darren Sammy. There was speculation about the WICB central contract with Gayle, like Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, showing interest in Twenty20 deals such as the IPL and Australia's Twenty20 Big Bash League.
Gayle recently slammed 333 for the highest score by a West Indies batsman on foreign soil, and only one of four cricketers to have three triple centuries to his name. Although the rest of series has been abysmal for him, the series tapered into a draw with rain interrupting the series intermittently.
Now after the drawn series against Sri Lanka, Gayle has decided to take his sabbatical from Test cricket to Twitter, stating that since it was on an adhoc basis, it could not be termed as Gayle's retirement from Test cricket.
This is what he posted on his Twitter page:
The Test series is officially over. Might as well. I think that’s me for white clothes . . . only will be watching attacking batters in T cricket now.I didn’t use the word retire, at least not now. It will just be temporary. I have a few things to sort out.
While it is understood that the West Indies cricket calendar does not have Test cricket until the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Gayle's contract and discussion with the WICB about his future is perhaps what he is hinting at.
There is plenty of time between the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the IPL 4 season and the start of the Test series at home for Gayle to reconsider and the West Indies Cricket Board to keep the explosive batsman interested.
