CL T20 Match 13: Super Over Gives Bushrangers win over CSK In Nerve Racking Thriller Tie

Victoria Bushrangers need a Super Over - the one over eliminator - to beat the Chennai Super Kings who fought back but could not get past the Australian team in the Champions League Twenty20 2010 At St. Georges Park in Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

The last over of the match saw Suresh Raina being the captain's choice for picking up a couple of key wickets and the Bushrangers needing twelve runs from the last six balls, chasing Chennai Super Kings' 161.

A six off the first ball seemed to put the Bushrangers ahead before Suresh Raina struck to pick up two more wickets. A little bit of gamesmanship saw Suresh Raina refuse to release the ball followed by Peter Siddle pulling away at the final mark at which point Raina repeated the feat before the umpire said enough fun and games.

It was back to business as four more runs came off the fourth ball with the Bushrangers now needing two runs off two balls. Suresh Raina failed to hold onto the throw from Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the bowler's end, and his overthrow cost the one run that tied the match as Chennai picked up the final Victoria wicket with the scores tied.

Earlier in the day, after the run fest between the Warriors and the Central Districts Stags, the Chennai Super Kings start was cautious before Murali Vijay let his form flow. Michael Hussey, replacing Matthew Hayden, struggled to get going but Vijay had no problems on his way to scoring seventy-three runs from fifty-three balls. As Chennai lost wickets, they lost the momentum built by Vijay. The CSK captain tried to push matters as did Justin Kemp and it was the latter's towerign six off the final ball that got CSK to 162.

The match also saw Siddle taken out of the bowling attack by the umpire after bowling two waist high full tosses that was deemed dangerous for the batsman.

The Bushrangers got off to a rollicking start with Aaron Finch thundering away as he has throughout the tournament. Forty-one runs flowed off seventeen balls as Chennai took the brunt of it. Justin Kemp, who was filling in for the injured Albie Morkel, was held back in the batting order and then, held back in the bowling order and the couple of overs bowled by him did not seem to impress the skipper too much who stuck to his spinners, R. Ashwin and Muttiah Muralitharan, and later Suresh Raina who picked up four wickets to change the course of the match.

Finch disappeared to a caught and bowled by Ashwin and Chennai persisted in their wicket taking pursuit. Matthew Wade and Bushrangers captain, David Hussey, did not make it easy, building on a partnership and eating away at the runs as the Australian team were ahead of the Duckworth Lewis as the rain made brief interruptions.

The rain seemed to affect as the pitch got smoother and the Chennai bowlers struggled to get the ball to slow as it did before the rain. Raina stepped in and suddenly Victoria fell from 5 down for 140 following the dismissal of Rob Quiney at 17.2 overs to nien for 157 in 19.3 overs. It seemed game over for Bushrangers after Raina picked up Hussey for a half century caught by Kemp. Then the drama of the last over followed and just when the match seemed to swing one way, it swung another.

It bowled down to the super over, and Chennai apparently had an after thought after intially entertaining Doug Bollinger as their bowler for R. Ashwin. But the choice of the spinner spelt doom for Chennai as Hussey hit the off spinner for three sixes in the course of the six balls, leaving Chennai chasing a daunting twenty-four runs in the one over.

Dhoni chose himself, Raina and Vijay with the latter two opening the bowling. However, neither batsman found it easy to get going against Clint McKay as Bushrangers broke out in celebrations at the cost of CSK who would have loved to seal their semi final spot with this one. The Bushrangers now stay alive.
