The Chennai Super Kings broke the rhythm of the host teams winning and they also ensured that one of the IPL teams would kick off winning ways.

Chennai Super Kings were completely dominant in their first match of the Champions League Twenty20 2010 in South Africa. New Zealand's Central Districts Stags had no answer to the IPL 3 winners and the result was a pretty insipid display for them at Kingsmead Durban.
The Chennai team started out with Srikkanth Aniruddha making a case for himself along with the top scorer of the match, Subramaniam Badrinath. This was after Chennai found themselves in deep trouble at two down for five runs after two overs and three down for forty when Murali Vijay was curtailed at nineteen runs.

Badrinath and Aniruddha formed a partnership that not only took Chennai out of trouble but also, in a position of authority. Badrinath's half century off just fory-two balls and Aniruddha's forty-two runs from only twenty-nine balls made for a great comeback only to be rounded up by Albie Morkel's breezy twenty-six that included a couple of sixes as Chennai Super Kings ended their innings on 151.
The Stags' response was staggering in comparison. There was not an iota of fight in the New Zealand team as the Chennai bowlers rollicked their way into the points table. Morkel did not do the trick, although he did get the first breakthrough of Peter Ingram opening the bowling, but his partner Doug Bollinger and first change, Laxmipathy Balaji, certainly enjoyed a riot.

The procession was one way and packed as Stags were reduced from two for twenty-two to five for thirty-six to eight for eighty-four. In the interim, Balaji had three wickets to become the richest wicket taker of the night, including that of Doug Bracewell, who in addition to picking up two wickets earlier, also top scored with thirty runs. Muttiah Muralitharan, high from his 800 Test wickets retirement, feasted on the hapless Stags as did R. Ashwin as Chennai finished emphatically ona fifty-seven run win, Stags all out for ninety-four.
