The Warriors' captain virtually singlehandedly handed the Victoria Bushrangers a crushing defeat in the Australian team's first match of the Champions League Twenty20 2010 at St. Georges Park, Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

The home team, literally speaking, did not disappoint their fans although they were coming up against a strong team. The credit then goes to David Jacobs, the Warriors captain, who not only presented his best foot forward with the bat but also, pulled off two stunning catches to turn the match decisively for the hosts.

The Warriors had a strange batting innings to contend with. For the first ten overs, they were virtually unstoppable as Jacobs took the assault to the Bushrangers in dominating fashion. Hammering nine fours and a six, Jacobs was giving the rusty looking Bushrangers bowlers, including Dirk Nannes, a rude wake up.

But that changed as the Warriors gifted away the first breakthrough, via a mix up between Ashwell Prince and Jacobs, running out the latter in the process for fifty-nine runs from thirty-nine balls.

Warriors were quickly reduced to two down for eighty-three at the start of the eleventh over as Prince attempted a cute shot, Andrew MacDonald providing the breakthrough. Thereafter, the Warriors had to dig deep to get to 158. Mark Boucher persisted despite a painful shoulder injury supported in a little cameo by Johan Botha and still looking short than the ideal total.

Knowing that wickets were imperative, Jacobs wrung in the changes in the bowling department but contributed himself to the Warriors' winning ways by pulling off not one but two stunning catches. Makhaya Ntini sent Rob Quiney home rather quickly but the next two catches totally catapulted the Warriors to the top of the Champions League Twenty20 points table.

Aaron Finch and Brad Hodge did not know what hit them as the electrifying fielder-cum-captain pulled off two awesome catches to send the Bushrangers' required run rate touching ten rather early into the match. With an arduous task ahead of them, it was upto the captain and vice captain but David Hussey and MacDonald found the going hard as Botha pulled off an economic spell, strangling the batsmen while Rusty Theron returned to take three wickets that saw the Bushrangers go down by twenty-eight runs in their first encounter in the competition.
