It was another facile outing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Champions League Twenty20 2010 after the Wayamba Elevens succumbed without a semblance of a fight to a ninety-seven run defeat at Centurion.

Were there two teams in the competition? That was the question being asked as Wayamba were bowled out for 103 and in a second match in succession, the Chennai Super Kings rallied with the bat and decimated with the ball.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the CSK captain, made no bones about the fact that he would like to bat first and Jehan Mubarak, the Wayamba captain, seemed only too keen to oblige. While Matthew Hayden left a few questions about his future, Murali Vijay came into his own and in a century plus partnership with Suresh Raina, had a telling effect on the Wayamba bowlers.

While Murali Vijay made sixty-eight runs off forty-six balls, his partner eventually overtook him in the scoring rate, as Raina played for eighty-seven runs from only forty-four balls that included six sixes and six boundaries in a thunderous assault as Chennai edged to the 200 run mark.
Faced with an enormous task, the team from Sri Lanka never looked to have their composure about them. Albie Morkel opened the bowling and immediately had the opposition in trouble by picking two wickets in two overs.

It was not long thereafter that Wayamba found themselves at six down for thirty-five at the end of the sixth over, with Morkel continued to make inroads and R. Ashwin then further compounding matters with his span. The CSK catching was spot on, particularly Muttiah Muralitharan who kept himself busy even as Albie had three wickets for his efforts while Ashwin bowled economically for four for eighteen.
