After weeks of canvassing support, Giles Clarke is the new chairperson for England and Wales Cricket Board. The Somerset chairman succeeds David Morgan, who shortly presides over as president of the ICC.
Eyeing greater dynamism in turning the ECB into a hard-headed business unit, Clarke faces a high-profile job which he must excel in, to produce a successful national side.
His first stride in increasing a significant sum for English cricket, lands him to a substantial new five-year television deal with ESPN Star Sports to allow the English cricket show in South Asia.
Accordingly the agreement fetches a sum of £40m, which is good for both domestic and international level.
Expressing his thoughts Clarke said,
I think the most important thing is proper leadership at all levels, to look to improve the finances of cricket both at first-class level and in the recreational game. We should provide more funds for better facilities, better grounds for spectators in the first-class and international game.
Morgan, the former chairman was seen as a safe pair of hands until attracting criticism for handling of the Zimbabwe question in particular.
With all left on Clark to serve up till 2009 will he be able to set and shake up things for the ECB?
