CT Ind v Aus Rain Break: Game Gone With the Wind, Really!

--> -->

When play was last seen on the field, Australia had amassed 234 for four in 42.3 overs. Since then however, rain has rent the skies and there has been no stopping at of 11.15pm IST when play was finally called off. Lighting did strike - a tower!

Australia lost Shane Watson early but young wicket keeper, Tim Paine, has been most impressive in England during the NatWest Series and even more so in the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa. At Centurion, he once again brought his best game to the table and along with Ricky Ponting, gave Australia a surefire impetus for a big score.

Paine's fifty-six and the Australian captain's sixty-five were enough to have India's critics tongues wagging as Ishant Sharma was completely clueless but the same could be said for India's captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has strangely appeared to have resigned to India's fate and searching for answers through experiments was not even on the cards.

India would like to think they pegged Australia to Australia to 234 but the revised Duckworth Lewis method would have meant India had a better target in a Twenty20 match than they did chasing 266 down in forty-two overs.

That said, the sky refused to relent and lightning took over one of the floodlights out and the field kept getting wet to even cause puddled. In a word, doomed.

India and Australia will share one point each in the Group A points table of the ICC Champions Trophy which means that India will have to beat West Indies and hope Pakistan can beat Australia by a run rate that renders Australia behind India.

It still keeps India alive which means the critics can ease off just a beat yet. India won't be returning in a hurry for the brickbats awaiting them.
