Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh urged the English players not to depend too much on Andrew Flintoff for their second successive Ashes victory. It would be too big an ask for him, says Steve Waugh.
Speaking to The Independent, Steve Waugh said,
Good captains have the ability to get their team to follow them in all directions and he can do that, but whether he can combine the job with batting and bowling as well I’m not so sure. I think ultimately it may be just too big an ask for him.
At present, all-rounder Flintoff is suffering from an ankle injury. He did not take part in the home series against Pakistan. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board has overlooked Flintoff for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy so that he would be available for the Ashes series.
