Do the Australians really see Cricket as a 'Gentlemen's Game'?

The Aussies are the world champions; they not only thrive on their victories but also have a very poor record of reeling under controversies. The latest addition to this is their questionable behaviour on the Champions Trophy podium, Punter and his army have been severely criticized by the Indian media for purportedly manhandling Indian cricket chief Sharad Pawar, not only the BCCI Chief but also one of the most respected politician in India - a controversy that has marred their maiden Champions Trophy conquest.

Criticisms rose after Ponting appeared to gesture Pawar pointing his finger disrespectfully demanding him to hand over the trophy quickly, further Damien Martyn was seen pushing Sharad Pawar in the back to get him off the podium during the prolonged celebrations. The confrontation has been highly condemned by many illustrious professionals, with Indian cricketers like the little duo of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar barging into the Australians.

Australian captain in defense has offered to apologize to any Indian official who felt insulted by his team's victory Celebrations, he said the Australians intended no offence and didn't intend to embarrass anyone. Though BCCI has decided on the contrary of demanding any explanation or apology from cricket Australia.

Sharad Pawar has condemned the Indian Media for blowing the whole issue out of proportion, he was quoted saying,

"You are all blowing this out of proportion. It is true that all the Australian players had crowded the stage and that I felt a jolt.

"But that wasn't intentional. I have seen the footage myself. There is nothing to all this,"

The issue wasn't as big as it has turned out to be Pawar's party workers have clung on to it portraying it as a political gimmick, calling it as their leader's humiliation - it was mere eagerness and no humiliation. Australian Cricket Board may issue an apology in a couple of days - but the debate will probably continue for long - are the Australians really humiliating or is it mere aggression? - is the fourth pillar of democracy miss-utilized in India!
