International Cricket Council (ICC) will be conducting precautionary tests ahead of the World Cup 2007 at WestIndies.
The report states that the drug tests will be conducted just before the World Cup starts as on March 11, 2007. The ICC will also conduct warm-up matches before the tournament from 5-9 March, 2007, at Caribbean.
Taking into consideration the case of the Champions Trophy 2006, in which Akhtar and Asif were tested positive for a performance enhancing substance, just before Pakistan’s first match in Jaipur, this decision of doping tests has been taken.
Both of the Pakistani opening bowlers were sent back to Pakistan immediately, and they missed the whole tournament.
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) panel banned Akhtar for two years but revoked and gave a clean chit to both the players.
This time ICC have done a wonderful job by taking the decision of Drug Tests, as this may bring awareness to the cricketers, that using drugs and testing positive at any point of time the tournament, will give an end to their future.
This decision would definitely give enthusiasm and build the players confidence, which will be a positive approach and a good step towards the Drug Tests decisions just before the World Cup 2007.
