Ego Clashes between Moore and Pieterson proved harmful for England

by Veena Gabriel

Is Kevin Pietersen resignation a power game?Is he bluffing? Perhaps he threw in the towel in the ring with the confidence that England Cricket Board would not not like to lose him at any cost and will go on their bended knees to have him in the team. A costly gamble which perhaps he lost. Now he waits in vain.

As per Kevin, he has a ferocious commitment to his own way of doing things ,a typical egoist belief that his ways and only his ways are right. It was perhaps n this context as also the fact that he was not in approval of some of the policies in South Africa that he quit South African Cricket to play for England. Only the England Cricket Board does not agree with his way of looking at things.

Kevin Pietersen is a strong man with a strong character, a man who puts his principles first and stands by his words. He said he will quit if he does not have way and he did so. Does that mean that Kevin has to be admired for his resignation?

But at the same time can one suppose that Kevin has put himself, his principles before the interests of the team, a crime if one is the captain and players look up to him for guidance? Leaving the team in a lurch is not some thing any good captain would do.

His going to the media about his genuine concerns about the England coach is not very commendable. Washing your dirty linen in public is not appreciated by anyone, only perhaps some ironmongers who believe any bad news is good publicity.

But this is not the way a gentleman behaves and cricket is a Gentleman's game, right, Kevin?
