Eng Aus ODI 5 Preview: Hosts Look to Finish High; Australia for More Pride

Australia would naturally figure that England winning 3-2 is better than 4-1. Andrew Strauss disagrees as they head into the final ODI at Lord’s.

Australia will have taken great heart from their victory against England in the fourth ODI of the Oval match of the NatWest series. However, the fact that they had already lost the series by then has meant that all Australia have been trying to do ever since has been to play for pride.

Australia will once again need the batting to click if they are to present England with a challenge as they did at the Brit Oval. It will be easier said than done if England are smarting from that loss which has made them miss a whitewash. England will not want to leave the series on a low after having so far in humbling the Australians.

Despite the fact that the match is essentially nothing more than of academic interest, England will not want to lose momentum or their hold on the Australian psyche while Ricky Ponting would go to any length to ensure his troops understand how important it is to keep England grounded.
