Eng Pak T4 Day 3 Lunch: Broad Departs After World Record with Trott to Follow Aamer's Act

What a turnaround! The fourth and final Test of the England Pakistan Test series at Lord's has seen Pakistan move from a position of ascendancy on day one to being decidedly on the backfoot at lunch on the third day after Mohammad Aamer's heroics were matched by a world record partnership between Jonathan Trott and Stuart Broad, before the UDRS came to Pakistan's rescue.

England sunk to a despondent five down for forty-five and seven down for just over 100 runs before a record 332 run partnership for the eighth wicket brought them back from the brink. Mohammad Aamer, the eighteen year old Pakistan fast bowler, was once again responsible for the mayhem in the England dressing room, picking six of the eight wickets to fall till lunch on the third day.

England could have found themselves in deep trouble had it not been for the partnership between the specialist number three batsman and the reluctant all rounder, reluctant because England do not want to dub Broad as such for fear of putting too much pressure on him. However, after the 169 runs he scored in the marathon partnership, it will be hard for Broad to escape the tag.

Trott's credentials were not in doubt, having scored his third Test century, his second at Lord's, and reaching 1000 Test runs at an exact average of 50. To do it in rather trying circumstances will only add to the magical 183 runs he has unbeaten until lunch.

Eventually Pakistan got the breakthrough fifteen minutes before lunch on the third day after Pakistan went for the Umpire Decision Review System which declared Broad as lbw to Saaed Ajmal, but England still a healthy 445 for eight.
