England, Aus, SA Cricketers May Pull Out of 2010 IPL 3 As Boards Disown Security Concerns

It will essentially each man to his own at the 2010 IPL 3 if the reports emanating from the foreign cricketers are relevant.

Even as the FICA chief Tim May expressed concerns that the cricketers are a wary lot of travellers to the 2010 IPL 3 after Ilyas Kashmiri issued the Al Qaeda threat to the 2010 Hockey World Cup, the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 IPL 3 in India, there are more reasons to believe the cricketers may back out if they are left to make their own decision.

It is understood that the three boards, the ECB, Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa may have pulled the rug under the cricketers' feet, asking them to make their own decision solo on whether to go to India or not, with the board refusing to be dragged into taking responsibility over their personal safety. One board is set to have even influenced their cricketers to opt out.

Reg Dickason, the widely sought security consultant, is believed to have seconded the opinion of those believe the threats pose a real problem and are credible enough to exercise caution. Although his report is yet to be made public, his extreme advise against not travelling could put Lalit Modi and the IPL in a tricky position a second year in a row.
