England Crisis Deepens: New Coach Imminent

It is never a good sign when a board goes looking for a new coach even before the captain and coach have been present in a mediation process.

Kevin Pietersen has described the present situation and deadlock as unhealthy. Matters broke out when former England captain Michael Vaughan was kept out of the squad due to tour the West Indies. With KP eyeing the Ashes later in the year, he considered it a betrayal of sorts that England coach, Peter Moores, chose not to back the captain on the decision to retain Vaughan and instead appealed against it in the selection committee meeting that KP was not privy to.

Pietersen immediately moved the ECB to either accept his resignation if Vaughan was not brought back and Moores allowed to continue as coach. While Moores has decided not to extinguish the matters in the media since the story broke out by stating he clearly did not want to affirm or deny the rifts between him and the England captain, furthering speculating that their tumultuous relationship had perhaps reached breaking point.

Meanwhile the ECB is said to be looking at looking former England spinner, Ashley Giles, to serve as a stop gap coach while Pietersen is going shopping on his own with his eyes firmly set on Graham Ford, currently the Director of Kent and who coached South Africa for the period between 1999 and 2002. Ford was also closely involved when Pietersen was still at school and later at Natal where Pietersen first embarked on the possibility of a cricketing career.

But ECB are said to have ruled out Ford as also Andy Flower, who is the team's batting coach but not one with all around coaching ability in the ECB's opinion.

Judging by Moores' non committal stand and Pietersen feeling clearly breached in the build up of team goals, it is unlikely England will feature both of them together again for an international stint, Michael Vaughan is another matter.
