England Trounce Australia By An Innings And 71 Runs for First Ashes Blood!

Threats of rain and washout refused to dampen spirits in the England dressing room as England went onto the register the first win in the Ashes 2010 in the second Test at the Adelaide Oval.

England needed six wickets to draw first blood in the Ashes down under. And Australia needed to see out the fifth and final day in order to stand a chance of going into the third Test with no team in the lead.

But England were not willing to settle for a draw after a scrap and they certainly did not want Australia to enjoy the honours the manner in which England did after finishing proudly at the Gabba in Brisbane.

It meant England had to pull out the aces and they did. They did the most important thing - dismiss Michael Hussey early to leave Australia with a tall tail and little hope. In a space of forty odd runs and fifteen overs, Australia had been annihilated at home.

And it took the combined efforts of Graeme Swann and James Anderson, the latter taking successive wickets of Brad Haddin and Ryan Harris off successive balls. Swann worked his magic and added to his overnight tally of two wickets to finish on a high with a five wicket haul to leave Australia out in the cold for 204 all out, having conceded the second Test by a whopping, disappointing margin of an innings and seventy-one runs.
