Whatever else may be said about Sourav Ganguly, what cannot be doubted is his timed to perfection debut in the IPL 4 season for the Pune Warriors. However, even the aggressive former Indian captain revealed that nerves played a huge role in the build up.

Sourav Ganguly made his much anticipated debut for the Pune Warriors India team against the Deccan Chargers in Uppal, Hyderabad. But it was not without the nervousness of picking up a bat in about six months, as Dada alluded to the fact.
In fact, Ganguly should have been playing two matches earlier. However, while he claimed to have been a late induction for the first match and not being mentally and physically match fit for the second match, he chose the match against the Deccan Chargers to reignite his IPL campaign after troubled times with the Shah Rukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ganguly's thirty-two runs in a crucial stay was invaluable for the Pune Warriors and he now has some time off before Pune Warriors' match to truly get into the training aspects now that he would have had a much needed boost to his confidence. Ganguly stated that he came into the match with zero confidence, not having played domestic cricket and feeling the jitters even as he has always wanted to continue in the IPL even though he was ignored at the IPL 4 auctions.
Ganguly's return, albeit as a replacement player, was seen as something Ganguly needed to prove he was not past his playing days as was surmised by a majority of the IPL franchisees and that it had little to do with his price tag at the auctions for him on a personal level. To have made a decently favourable start in a match that the Pune Warriors won will give Ganguly's spirits a great boost and hopefully he will be able to elevate his game once again to the delight of his fans, one of whom who decided to ignore the barricades and rushed onto the field to hold his feet in reverence.
