FICA Warns of Legal Action if Boards Stand in the Way of Non Contracted Players

Even as the BCCI is promising a percentage of a player's salary to the cricket boards, FICA has warned that the boards could be courting legal trouble if insisted upon to prove a NOC for playing abroad.

The Federation of International Cricketers Association is reiterating a stance they have held regarding the cricketers competing in Twenty20 tournaments abroad and are particularly concerned of the boards controlling players who are no longer contracted with the national team.

While the BCCI has insisted signing on foreign players who have prior No Objection Certificate from the board, the FICA is opposed to Cricket Australia telling cricketers where and when they can play despite not having a central contract.

The remarks come in the wake of the West Indies Cricket Board replacing Chris Gayle with Darren Sammy as the West Indies captain after what they are reported to have assumed as liability with Gayle eyeing lucrative Twenty20 deals elsewhere. Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard have also rejected central contracts with the WICB, much like Gayle.

Currently amongst the former Australian cricketers involved in the IPL include Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne and Matthew Hayden.
