Andrew Strauss will lead the 15-member squad against Sri-Lanka in the five ODI matches. Michel Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff were out of the squad. Right-handed Vaughan, suffering from knee injury will continue his county stint with Yorkshire while the high profile all-rounder Andrew Flintoff who hurt his ankle has been dropped from the shorter version of the game. The national selectors also ruled out other two heavyweights Kevin Pieterson for the ODI the series that begins on 17 June at Lord's.

Glen Chappel is the new face in the squad. 32-year-old Glen has never picked up in the one-day squad before, even though he was taken in the Test squad against South Africa for the Trent Bridge match.

Glen's long-term association with Lancashire has proved fruitful for the young all-rounder as he got the call for the ODI series. Besides Glen, other three untested three all-rounders are Tim Bresnan, Jamie Dalrymple and Alex Loudon.

From the team composition, it is more or less apparent that the national selectors are giving priority to Ashes series in Australia commencing in November. Therefore, they have decided to rest the the injured players. They can get themselves fit for the Ashes series.

Squad: Andrew Strauss (captain), Marcus Trescothick, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Geraint Jones, James Dalrymple, Liam Plunkett, Sajid Mahmood, Steve Harmison, Ed Joyce, Alex Loudon, Tim Bresnan, Glen Chapple, Alastair Cook.
