Brain Lara’s last games in front of his home crowd are turning out to be almost fairytale like. With West Indies leading the five-match series 2-1, the setting at Port of Spain was perfect for a thriller. The promise came from the previous three games that went right down the wire.



However, breaking off, Windies won the fourth ODI as convincingly as a team can beat and opponent. With the bowlers sticking to their guns, they reduced India to 217 for 7 in 50 overs. The wicket didn’t have any snakes on it, however, the nagging line and length of the Windies bowlers did the trick for them. Dwayne Bravo scalped 3 wickets for 32 runs. Only, Yuvraj (52), Kaif (62) and Dhoni (46) made moderate contributions when all the others failed.



In reply, West Indies reached the target with loss of 4 wickets 6 overs to spare. Chris Gayle played a good knock of 46. After the start, suddenly the Windies went 2 down with Sarwan and Samuels departing cheaply. Then came the local legend Lara and played a masterful innings of 69 with 8 hits to the fence and 1 over it. Bravo chipped in with the bat too scoring 61.

It is a rare ODI series win for the West Indies; the last two wins were against the minnows Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. India was maybe a bit too overconfident and thus paid the price of taking West Indies lightly.



The excuses for the loss as given by the skipper sounded really hollow and pathetic.



India can salvage some pride by winning the final game. However, with the momentum with the Windies, it seems very unlikely that India can bounce back to win.
