Muttiah Muralitharan retired after the first Test in Galle while Lasith Malinga has been rested in light of a painful knee. While it would have be a serious void in the Sri Lankan team, the Indian team seemed to have evened the odds.
Gautam Gambhir was struggling for form in the first Test and now a knee injury in training seems to have done him in, at least for the second Test. And Harbhajan Singh seems to have passed on the fever to Yuvraj Singh, the man who scored in the tour match but is yet to impact the Test series. But there will be no chance in the second Test for him either.
