The Kings XI Punjab team must begin to wonder if the rain will play a spoil sport in the finals points tally in IPL 2. Durban proved another wet watershed for the Mohali team as KKR won one match finally by the Duckworth Lewis method and Chris Gayle's manic batting.

The KKR team needed to get a win under their belt to stave off the controversy that has surrounded their team even before the start of the IPL 2 season. They could not have asked for a better occasion for Chris Gayle to fire in a Duckworth Lewis scenario where the team won by eleven runs.
Although the Kings XI Punjab team made 158, their runs came by way of smal cameo like innings from Irfan Pathan elevated in the order, Yuvraj Singh and Sri Lankans Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. Sourav Ganguly would have appeased a few Kolkata fans, picking up two wickets in Durban.
But the KKR was all about Gayle in full force after captain Brendon McCullum's brief start and while his forty-four may appear modest, it was not in the context of the match. As rain put paid to the match reaching its climax, KKR's 79 for one at the end of 9.2 overs was sufficient to hand them their first win.
