In light of the euphoria over India making the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, there are rumours that Gary Kirsten may be convinced to continue on as the Indian coach. But the former South African batsman has confirmed he is done with his role for the time being.

Gary Kirsten would like to sign off as the Indian coach with a stupendous win for team India in the India v Sri Lanka ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, even Kirsten realizes that there is still one more match when India cannot let down their guard, and one they will have to perhaps prepare their hardest in terms of strategy and discipline of skills.
But there is another matter for the Indian coach to consider, or rather reconsider - the matter of the Indian coach. Gary Kirsten has yet again confirmed that this will be his last match with the Indian cricket team as he has chosen not to contemplate reconsidering continuing in the role.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni alluded to the coach's impending leave during India's tour of South Africa. However, while the BCCI chose to leave the matter until the very end on whether they would ask Kirsten to carry on, Kirsten has ruled himself out by previously suggesting that he wanted to be closer to home, to spend time with his sons.
With family coming high on the list, Kirsten has opted not to continue with the team that rose to the no.1 Test rank under his guidance and is now on the brink of recreating history from 1983 when Kapil Dev's men brought home the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy. It will be a remarkable achievement if team India were to accomplish it because it would mark a momentous foray into coaching for Kirsten at the international stage.
