Former England batsman, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, has spoken about the spot fixing/ match fixing scandal, claiming that harsh punishment must be taken and if the ICC Anti Corruption Unit cannot, then he is willing to take on the role himself.

In his column, Boycott spoke about the recurrence of such events stating that Pakistan's cricket board was responsible by not taking concrete action against their players but rather backtracking on issues. He felt that on the contrary, Aamir should be promised a lighter punishment if he is willing to come out and "tell the truth".
The excerpt: "Because it is so crucial for cricket, I think the ACSU should offer Mohammed Amir a plea bargain. Tell us the truth about what took place and he can get off with a lighter sentence. If he won't play ball, then make an example of him. I feel for Amir, because any 18-year-old is likely to get dragged along by his seniors. But I still believe that he deserves a lengthy ban – seven years, perhaps – if he is shown to have bowled no-balls to order."
While he held empathy for young fast bowler, Mohammad Aamir, he still felt Aamir deserved a ban if he is found guilty of the crime. He also cited the example of Mohammad Azharuddin and Manoj Prabhakar who were banned and never played for India again.
He added that he and those of his ilk such as Michael Holding could do a better job at getting rid of troubel makers int he game, claiming "they would not mess up". He also stated that Pakistan will lose the sympathy they received over the last couple of years.
