Even the veteran cricketer, Graeme Pollock, suggested South Africa should perhaps have a newer, younger faces in the South African squad. But when Wessels suggested perhaps that was the way to go, Smith tore into Wessels given that the latter happens to be the batting consultant of the team as well as on the selection panel.

Smith's words on Twitter, "Find it amazing that Kepler can sit and say should have picked a younger squad when he was one of the selectors who chose it! unbelievable!" He further took potshots at Wessels, "At least we own up to playing poorly, but all these so called experts/ex players I’m not sure I see a winners medal hanging round their necks!"
