Matthew Hayden is undoubtedly the most destructive opening batsman in the World, he holds the record of second highest individual score in Test Cricket and the highest ever by an Australian. Only three odd months back he was on the verge of facing expulsion from the shorter version of the game - but the selectors backed his ability and with his record knock of 181 not out, he has proven his selection for the World Cup affirmative.

Australia have lost the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy but were out to salvage some pride in New Zealand - with some immaculate batting from Hayden who remained unbeaten at 181, the highest score by an Australian and the eighth highest ever in an ODI (overtaking Mark Waugh's record of 173 runs) helped the Aussies pile a mammoth total of 346/5.
The Queenslander was struggling with a foot injury and had to call in for a runner with 11 overs to go - however, he was least worried as he innovated with his stance opening himself wider, smashing the Kiwi bowlers for a record 10 sixes in the innings, also a feat never achieved by any other Australian.
