Despite being rejected by the ICC, the former Australian Prime Minister has refused to withdraw his nomination for the vice president's post, which would make him the ICC President in two years' time.

Majortiy dissent against him notwithstanding, John Howard has refused to withdraw his name from the running and Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket are throwing weight behind his decision by expressing their anguish and disappointment at what transpired at the ICC annual conference in Singapore.
CA and NZC boards have decided to review the situation in less than a month's time, but Howard believes he has been dealt an unfair hand with the ICC not actually taking a vote count but basing the decisions upon certain reservations of the members.
Only Australia, New Zealand and England were expected to vote for Howard's nomination but Howard believes he is being singled out even though there are other members from political field who are not being isolated, perhaps referring to the seventh ICC President, Sharad Pawar.
Howard is being led to believe there is more than his stance against the Mugabe regime and his seemingly racist view of other cross sections of society that has led to this situation.
