Hussey Believes Australia Don't Deserve No.1

Mike Hussey is touching upon a new low, not personally, but as a team. But he is being realistic and Australia are grounded in that sense.

Australia are going into the fifth ODI at Trent Bridge with the incentive to make the series 7-0 after winning it 4-0 at Lord's. The need to keep the momentum is critical for Australia going into the ICC Champions Trophy, something that the rested and returned Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, is emphasizing on.

A loss here would spoil that opportunity to go where no Australian team has gone before. It was also cap off, in a sense, an otherwise dismal Ashes ending.

Mike Hussey talks about the Australian team as one that comprises the working class. He believes that this Australian team is one of trial, where a team is being put together and people assigned their role. He was speaking in the context of the team earlier that was rich in terms of talent and experience and worthy of the number one tag.

Australia have the opportunity to climb back to no. 1 in the ICC ODI rankings should they win the ODI series 7-0 in England. But Hussey knows and states that this team needs to build more of a winning momentum against other teams before they can truly call themselves deserving of the top spot.

Perhaps it is this kind of thinking from the old hands and emphasis from the skipper that is keeping this team grounded despite their runaway success in England in the ODI series thus far.
