After Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni stands a good opportunity to become the next recipient of the LG People's Choice Award as nominated by the ICC.

The ICC is throwing the doors open for the public once more to decide the LG People's Choice Award as it shortlists five prominent names from international cricket from which to choose from.
The second LG People’s Choice Awards will allow cricket fans the unique chance to vote for a galaxy of international stars who have produced outstanding performances in the past year.
The names making the LG People's Choice Awards 2011 short list include
South Africa batsman Hashim Amla,
India’s ICC Cricket World Cup winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni,
Chris Gayle from the West Indies,
Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara,
and
England’s Jonathan Trott.
For the second time in the history of the LG ICC Awards, fans will have the opportunity to decide the winner, voting via www.lgpeopleschoice.com. Voting will be open until 11am GMT on 25 August with the winner will be announced on 12 September at the LG ICC Awards in London.
The short list, nominated by an elite panel of cricket experts headed by former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd, along with Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas, England’s Mike Gatting, South Africa’s Paul Adams and New Zealand’s Danny Morrison, was selected using criteria set out by LG and the ICC.
This dictated that the nominees should have displayed some of the attributes regarded by LG as in line with their corporate qualities such as innovation, dynamism, strength in decision-making, performing well under pressure and executing a plan to distinction.
ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat touched upon the award and its relevance,
The inaugural LG People’s ICC Awards, which was won by Sachin Tendulkar, proved hugely popular among fans across the globe and showed us just how much voting for their cricketing heroes meant. The LG ICC Awards is now a prestigious event in the cricketing calendar and we are delighted that fans will again be able to have their say on who should win one of the awards in 2011.Sachin Tendulkar was the overhwhelming favourite last year to win the award and while Hashim Amla has been hugely impressive for South Africa and won several accolades for his prolific scoring, Dhoni has been at the helm while India have touched the no.1 Test ranking as well as won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 under him as he elevated himself higher in the order and played a huge role in a significant contribution with the bat to win India their first World Cup since 1983.
