The ICC Champions Trophy schedule promises to be tight, compact and exciting. Restricted to eight teams, the event will span fifteen games played at the two South Africa venues, Centurion and Wanderers.
India, Pakistan, Australia and West Indies form one group while South Africa, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka form the second group in the tournament being played between the 22nd of September to the 5th of October, 2009 in South Africa after it was moved out of Pakistan.
With a four million dollar prize money, there is enough incentive for teams to turn up on their very best performance. It is a deliberate move on the part of the ICC if the ICC Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, is to go by.
It promises to be a more tense format, competition wise and if the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England was the model the ICC are looking at, they are hoping there will be smoke as nations spar with nations.
