The time between the ICC Champions Trophy group matches and the semi finals was suspended for a prestigious show, at least by those associated with the ICC, the LG ICC Cricket Awards.

It was surprising that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was not present at the awards ceremony that saw Ishant Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. But perhaps the Indian captain is feeling in less than celebratory mood after India crashed out of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Ironically, Dhoni won the ICC ODI Players of the Year for a second year in a row while being named the captain of both, the ICC ODI Team of the Year as well as the ICC Test Team of the Year.

Gautam Gambhir snagged the Test Player of the Year, and it was a phenomenal achievement given that he was only drafted in on a more permanent basis last year. But he has not looked back since.

Sri Lanka's Tillekeratne Dilshan walked away with the Twenty20 Performance of the Year, even though Pakistan's Shahid Afridi was the hot pick as he had led Pakistan with great performances in the semi final and final of the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England.

England's women cricketer and outstanding batting performer, Claire Taylor, beat her own England captain, Charlotte Edwards, to win the ICC Woman Cricketer of the Year.

Umpire from Pakistan, Aleem Dar, won the ICC Umpire of the Year, denying Australia's Simon Taufel the opportunity to win it five times.

Peter Siddle won the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year while William Porterfield of Ireland won the ICC Associate Player of the Year award.

Mitchell Johnson capped it off for Australia by winning the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award. Incidentally he thanked his family, without specifically mentioning his mother, Vikki Harber, but did mention his fiance, Jessica Bratich, whose famous relationship has had Johnson, the all rounder, running for cover from his mother.

New Zealand did have one win - the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award which was collected by New Zealand captain, Daniel Vettori.

The awards were a dampener though in that they failed to acknowledge more of the performances that have made Pakistan the Twenty20 champions and completely overlooked South Africa and their cricketers in their award nominations, despite South Africa topping both, the ICC ODI rankings and the ICC Test rankings.
