Even as the Umpire Decision Review System continues to be hotly debated, the ICC is extending the UDRS' terrain over the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 even further.

The ICC is planning to introduce the UDRS into the World Cup as early as the quarter final stage. It was earlier reported that the UDRS would get underway for the semi final and final stages of the World Cup. However, according to latest reports, that is set to change.
The UDRS will now be used in not only the two semi final matches and the final in Mumbai but also, in the four quarter final matches that precede them. The ICC has apparently wanted to see the controversial system right through the tournament but has had to curb those intentions in the jointly co hosted countries - India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - because of the expensive nature of the equipment and the fact that it could not be implemented by lugging it around.
The UDRS has been received with mixed reactions amongst Test playing nations with India leading those that are against the system for want of being fail proof while teams such as South Africa and Australia are keen that the system be uniformly applied, rather than the ICC leave the decision to ambiguous agreements between two teams in a bilateral Test series.
