ICC Takes Minnows Out of ICC Cricket World Cup, Offers them ICC World Twenty20!

From 14 to 10 and from 12 to 16. That is the ICC's formula for the associate cricket teams in a shock decision, an about turn from the ICC who have now decided that these teams have no place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 edition.

The ICC has conveyed the news that the associate nations will not be particularly from the next edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup effectively suggesting this will be the last time that the Netherlands, Canada, Kenya, Ireland, and so on could be playing their last fifty overs international games in this tournament of prestige.

The ICC felt the interests of these teams would be better served in the format of Twenty20, obviously referring to the endurance factor of teams as well as fans. Batting twenty overs would be an easier proposition for teams in the ICC's opinion because in their words, the teams are suffering for want of skill sets.

The ICC is wary of dumping the teams altogether. Instead the ICC's new formula is to reduce the number of teams from 14 in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 to 10 in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 while increasing the ICC World Twenty20 teams from twelve to sixteen as a way of still keeping the associate nations happy. However, they are likely to meet with adverse reactions on that front as is becoming increasingly visible.

The ICC is obviously looking into the monetary aspects of hosting these tournaments as also, the sustenance of the ODI format which has come under scrutiny. With the matches between the top teams and the minnows creating huge disparities and creating predictable matches, the ICC has realized that despite the fact that there is a certain excitement involving new teams, that their summarized theory that these teams cannot play this format is dictating that the ICC abandon these teams though not altogether.
