The Ireland cricket team and authorities have been angry ever since the ICC announced its decision to uninvite the associate teams, by way of qualification, for the next edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

With commercial interests and the competitive nature of the sport being put on the agenda, the associate nations were given the news within the first week of the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. While Netherlands bemoaned the loss of opportunity to compete with the Test playing nations in the limited overs format, the Ireland cricket team members called the ICC's peace offer of increasing the number of teams participating in the ICC World Twenty20 as detrimental to the development of cricket in Ireland.

Determined to take the matter higher up, their hues and cries have apparently know been heard because the ICC President, Sharad Pawar, is now requesting the ICC Executive Board, on behalf of the Associate Nations to reconsider the decision to restrict the number of teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to the ten Test playing nations.

Ireland beat England and stretched India, the eventual champions of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. In light of their heart warming performances, they would naturally feel that they should have been rewarded, not stunted for want of opportunities. And their loud protests have certainly forced the ICC to rethink their decision. The question now though is whether Ireland have the clout to overturn that decision.
