In a rather unfair match, Scotland were faced with the prospect of facing another Test team within twenty-four hours. While they redeemed themselves against New Zealand, they would unable to cope with the might of the South Africans in the ICC World Twenty20 in England.

An eighty-seven strong opening partnership between captain Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis gave way to AB de Villiers who turned it on and in the company of Albie Morkel put the target out of Scotland’s reach.
Kallis’ forty-eight from thirty-one and Smith’s thirty-eight from twenty-nine were merely the foundation stones as AB showed what talent the South African line up possessed. AB’s seventy-nine came off just thirty-four balls and his six sixes were a testimony that South Africa did not have to wait till Morkel launched for his two sixes in the innings as South Africa finished strongly on 211.
Such a colossal total was bound to do most teams in and Scotland were no exception. Apart from Karl Coetzer’s forty-two, the Scotland scorecard made for dismal reading. Wickets were shared all round in the South African camp as Scotland slipped from four down for thirteen to eighty-one all out in less than sixteen overs.
