This was the ignominy unexpected. Yet India lost all three of their Super Eights match, the final one against South Africa at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in the final Super Eights match of the ICC World Twenty20 in England.

South Africa relied heavily on AB de Villier’s sixty-three on a pitch that played truant. His partnership with South Africa captain Graeme Smith was important because South Africa could not force the situation in the latter part of their innings. They had perhaps ended up a few runs short on 130. But they would have backed themselves to defend it.
But it did not look like it as Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir took early control. But when both batsmen got out after getting starts, matters became more complicated for India. Ironically it was the introduction of spin that did India in. Johan Botha dismissed both, Gambhir and Suresh Raina to start the slide.
Yuvraj Singh provided the brief interlude but Dale Steyn intervened. India needed an innings of contribution much like that of de Villiers, that was painstaking despite the plethora of shots in his repertoire. But Botha, Duminy and Roelof van der Merwe combined to prove the strangling force that eventually snuffed India’s lights out, winning the final encounter by twelve runs.
