If International Cricket Council’s (ICC) chief executive Malcolm Speed is to be believed, a costly world cup is in store for the fans. It would possibly mar the cricketing sprit of the fans, who are now keenly waiting for the event in West Indies next year.
Malcolm Speed says that the five-star hotels are very expensive in West Indies. Media personnel would have to spend there about 50 nights to cover the whole event. Therefore, ICC is concerned regarding the spiraling costs, which may stand obstacle for the media coverge of the Cricket World Cup 2007.
ICC is expected to hold talks with the Cricket World Cup organizing committee in August on this issue. ICC confirms the matches of the world cup will be played in nine different grounds of nine islands. There are 20 practice venues for major matches.
