Rubbishing remarks that the ICL was a its very end, Kapil Dev and Zee's Subash Chandra announced that the ICL was very much alive and kicking and that it plans to kick start its tournament towards the end of the year, hopefully with the ICC's recognition.

There was much speculation during India's tour to New Zealand that the availability of the ICL affiliated New Zealand players was a sign that the ICL had let go of its players and decided to shut shop in the face of an economic melt down and the unavailability of Pakistan players who comprised a sizable chunk of the ICL. Pakistan players such as Imran Farhat stated that they had no intention of dropping their ICL contracts.
However, the ICL once again reiterated its hopes that the ICC will find a way to give its the recognition it is due for and also, avoid a legal battle should that not be the case.
Stating that it would begin its activities for the third year in September-October that involve the Twenty20 tournaments, the ICL is keen to make a comeback, albeit after what seems a long hiatus.
