On a day when Bangladesh gave their fans little to cheer, Mahmudullah once again stood out for an outstanding innings on a day that went perfectly India's way.

The second Test of India's tour of Bangladesh saw Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again return as the Indian captain as did Harbhajan Singh, which meant that Amit Mishra missed out while Pragyan Ojha was given the nod.
But Bangladesh's spineless batting soon became the talking point as none apart from Mahmudullah showed the stomach for a fight, even as Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan performed well on their respective comeback trails, with four and three wickets each, Ojha picking two as well.
Perhaps the day was characterized by the dismissal of Mohammad Ashraful for thirty-nine runs, stumped after a rush of blood moment, something most of the Bangladesh batsmen seemed to suffer from. Thirty-four from the captain, Shakib Al Hasan, and another thirty from Mushfiqur Rahim would not be enough to test the Indian team.

From three for thirteen to seven for 127, Bangladesh were going nowhere. But Mahmuddullah was unfortunate as he ran out of partners batting on an unbeaten ninety-six in Bangladesh's eventual first innings score of 233.
In reply, India were well placed at sixty-nine runs for no loss at stumps, made possible by Sehwag's unbeaten forty-ball forty-one, Gautam Gambhir not out on twenty-six chasing the late Sir Don Bradman's record for six consecutive Test centuries.
