Ind Bang T1 Day 5: Rahim The Star Even as India Win the First Test After Ordinary Efforts

India did not emphatically express that they were the world's no.1 team. But they would argue, they did not need to. They were only playing Bangladesh. That was the crux of Virender Sehwag's captaincy in Chittagong in the first Test.

Sehwag's reaction did not seem to change very much because he still felt that the Bangladesh bowling was not good in the second innings and their batting in both innings left a lot to be desired.

But Bangladesh will feel that they did stretch India on the field on the final day of the first Test after Mushfiqur Rahim scored his maiden Test century to deny India an even more facile, faster victory.

Although Bangladesh did not really have the firepower to threaten to chase down India's target of 415, the fact that they did touch the 300 mark in the second innings will still give them plenty of hope and confidence going into the second Test.

Amit Mishra and Ishant Sharma were the outstanding bowlers for India with four and three wickets respectively. However, it were the stellar batting efforts of Sachin Tendulkar to bail out India from the doldrums on day one and Gautam Gambhir's fine century that allowed India to set forth a virtually impossible total for the hosts.

There is a gap to bridge in the competition but Bangladesh have shown signs of competitiveness. But do they have the burst to burst the bubble for India? Not likely.
