One would say the match was won on the previous day itself when Graeme Smith was the culprit of playing a shot in anger provoked by Sreesanth. The cascading effect continued to be felt on day four as India rallied back from a 1-0 deficit in the India South Africa series to level the series by comprehensively beating the hosts.

The game was hanging favourably in India's favour with the hosts requiring the better part of 192 runs for victory and only six wickets in hands, their big guns back in the pavilion nursing their wounds.
And the task would not get easier on the fourth day as Jacques Kallis was given the smell of leather he will not be forgetting in a hurry, Sreesanth picking up his third wicket of the innings. AB de Villiers and Mark Boucher were handed a couple of dubious decisions, reducing South Africa to six down for 143.
Ashwell Prince wanted to make a game of the target of 303 runs but missed the lack of a more robust batting partner who could have given India a run for their money. Morne Morkel hung around for a bit and eventually the three digit number reduced. But the task was too onerous as South Africa were eventually dismissed for 215, Zaheer Khan making quick work of the job with the hosts losing the match by eighty-seven runs going into the third and deciding Test in Cape Town.
