Ind SA T3 Day 3 Stumps: Sachin Tendulkar Lands 51st Test Ton, India Get 2 Run Lead

Just how tense is this battle for the third Test that will decide the India South Africa series? It can be gauged in the manner in which Sachin Tendulkar battled for India and was aptly rewarded but South Africa did not cut India loose either at Newlands, Cape Town.

Sachin Tendulkar scored his fifty-first Test century while starring in 176 run partnership for the third wicket with Gautam Gambhir who was less fortunate, missing out on his Test century by seven runs.

However, as frustrating as that partnership was for the hosts sitting on 362 for their first innings total, they managed to peg back through Dale Steyn whose five-for was critical in not letting India build on a huge lead. While South Africa would have been hoping to build a bit of their own on a pitch that seems to be taking wear and tear, they were forced to concede a couple of runs to the opposition.

Promptly Harbhajan Singh, who scored forty runs to engage the South Africans in an unpleasant battle for runs, struck to dismiss Graeme Smith, a deft blow, and even the nightwatchman, Paul Harris, walked right into a plumb lbw decision to leave South Africa on fifty-two for two at stumps on the third day.
