Ind SA T3 Day 5 Stumps: India Pull Out Draw to End Series on a Level Note; Kallis is Hero

Gautam Gambhir did what Jacques Kallis has done in the course of the third Test, bat through pain to take India to a draw after the South African all rounder pulled off a century in each innings to give South Africa a good chance for victory on the final day of the third Test of the India South Africa series at Newlands, Cape Town.

India did lose Virender Sehwag early to Morne Morkel in the case for 341 for a improbable series victory in South Africa. However, Gambhir battled an injury sustained previously to keeping bating out time and South Africa's hopes.

South Africa struggled to pick up wickets with the same alacrity as Harbhajan Singh did even as Kallis and Mark Boucher put up resistance that in hindsight, saved South Africa. Rahul Dravid was defense personified while Gambhir was all about grit. That the scoring rate was of no concern was evident from the fact that India barely passed fifty runs at lunch. Perhaps had Sehwag stayed there longer, chasing could have been an outside motive. But it was clear from the outset that India were keen on draw.

That India were 166 at three at the close of play did not seem to matter as much as the fact that they had completely annihilated the idea of victory for the hosts. Even Gambhir falling later in the day failed to cheer South Africa who saw the writing on the wall as the match petered into a draw with Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Laxman at the crease.
