Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a typical captain's knock at a much needed time as India managed to post yet another strong total in Nagpur in the second ODI against Sri Lanka.

India looked suspect at the fall of Gautam Gambhir's wicket. The acerbic manner in which Gambhir walked off also left India in a slightly perilous position at two for nineteen in the fifth over.
But Dhoni proved the anchor around which India rose to 301 in their innings. But it took some grinding to do with sixty-two run partnership between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, playing for the ill Yuvraj Singh, and another half century partnership between Dhoni and Kohli before the big partnership came to turn the tide in India's favour. Lost in the mayhem were the two debutants, Suranga Lakmal and spinner Suraj Randiv, the former's figures not inspiring but the latter showing three wickets against his name.
The fifth wicket partnership between Suresh Raina and Dhoni was the worthy culmination of the efforts of those who batted earlier and provided real impetus towards taking India from an ordinary total to a challenging one.
The 126 run partnership that lasted for nearly twenty overs ensured that India had a steady stream of runs and went past the few of collapsing trying to set a daunting total. Taking the lead role was none other than the skipper who played an innings of authority in his 111 ball 107, well supported by Raina on sixty-eight.
Dhoni's emphatic innings undid much of the desolation of losing Virender Sehwag early, having Gautam Gambhir run out due to a disaster and then, not having the back up in Yuvraj. In that Dhoni took the pressure upon himself to ensure India had something to keep the fans cheering on what was expected to be a run fest of a pitch in Nagpur.
