Ind Sl ODI 3 Compaq Cup Full Time: Matthews Rips Apart World's No. 1

Despite the stalwarts' efforts to keep the game and India's interests alive, Sri Lanka stormed their way in the dress rehearsal with a heart ripping performance from Angelo Matthews.

The Premadasa Stadium in Colombo had its reputation restored a day after India defied it. Ironically it was India again who would falter in a run chase batting second and failing to overcome.

Sachin Tendulkar tried to pursue Sri Lanka's 308 with twenty-seven runs and Rahul Dravid showed both, his rock like qualities as well as his blustery side, for forty-seven runs, but it would come woefully shot as he was cleaned by Matthews, whose six wickets capitalized on the good start given by Thilan Thushara and Kapugedera as India succumbed embarrassingly to 168 all out in thirty-seven runs, as the hosts won by 139 runs.

India soon found themselves at 126 for five at the half way mark and there was no doubt which team was gaining the psychological advantage while another was slipping only a day after it touched the pinnacle of being the world's number one team. This was a day when all departments of the game led India down, doing little to substantiate their claims to number one.
