The first day of the second Test at the SSC in Colombo was not much different from the first day of the first Test at Galle, except that there were a couple of big names missing int he Sri Lankan bowling line up. The batting though did not have any problems.

Tharanga Paranavitana scored back to back Test centuries against India in successive Tests, showing clearly what has been missing in the Indian effort. With Gautam Gambhir having hit a bit of a rough patch and Virender Sehwag managing to score a century in the first innings of the first Test only to fall away in the second did not help India as they conceded the first Test to the hosts.
Two massive partnership embarrassed the Indian bowling, which it has to be said, has been rather toothless right through. It may seem harsh on a first day pitch that has been rather flat, but there were no indications to suggest the Indian bowling was naythign to write home about.
Tillekeratne Dilshan was once again in swashbuckling form, as he scored a half century before he gave Pragyan Ojha a moment to sparkle with Sri Lanka's score on ninety-nine. The second wicket though seemed forever to fall as far as the Indians were concerned as Kumar Sangakkara and Paranavitana picked up the trail to pose 174 runs for the second wicket.
Paranavitana faced next to no hurdles on his way to a century, broken only by Ishant Sharma. But the Sri Lankan captain was in top form and unrelentling, batting seamlessly on 130 in partnership with Mahela Jayawardene when play ended with the Sri Lankan score on 312/2.
