With the latest win, hosts India have kept their chances alive of a series win while Australia still leads the seven-match series 2-1, with three more matches to go after the first match was washed out.

On a slow turning pitch, the big guns for India fired as Tendulkar, though shaky on the start, hit a record 84th ODI fifty to provide a platform to the Indian innings. Meanwhile impressive knocks from Ganguly, Dhoni and couple other players set India to pile somewhat impressive 291, for the loss of four wickets.

In reply to the Indian total the Aussies got off to a flyer and inspite losing Gilchrist early on, the furious opener Matthew Hayden hit a blistering knock. Australia's 100 was up inside 13 overs and were cruising easily to victory but the wickets of skipper Ponting and Michael Clarke put on a ray of hope for the Indians.

With Symonds coming in, the run rate was never going to be a problem, and rightly so, as the robust smacked the ball all over the field.

But with the depart of Symonds the Australian innings seem to fizzle as a tight bowling spell by R.P. Singh and Zaheer Khan in the last two overs rewarded India with the much awaited win. Australians could however only manage 283 for 7.

It was just what India needed after being outplayed in the previous matches. Indian captain MS Dhoni was adjudged man of the match.
