The drama in the match began well before the first ball was bowled in the India v Sri Lanka ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India won the toss and then lost it. Find out how.

When the coin was tossed the first time in the presence of the Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara, commentator, Ravi Shastri and ICC match referee, Jeff Crowe, the coin apparently came up heads, which Sangakkara called and Dhoni thought he had won because he heard the call wrong.
The match referee claimed he had not heard the call and therefore, Dhoni acceded to let the coin be tossed again. Given Dhoni's dicey form with the toss, perhaps it was a bad idea. The second toss was won by Kumar Sangakkara who had no hesitation in deciding to bat first.
The subject of the toss became a touchy subject thereafter, with neither team dwelling on it too much and getting on with the job while experts continued to remain baffled by the proceedings, still confused and debating even at the innings break.
