Chasing a tough target of 392 on the final day of first test, the Indies at one stage were in a better position having 171 for four playing half of the day. However, Anil Kumble and Sehwag devastated the middle order batting line of the host.

Indies losing four wickets in 55 runs in final session were heading towards a sure defeat. However, Dave Mohammed who took three wickets in the second innings gave stiff resistance to the Indian bowling attack, which seemed more aggressive and promising. He forced Team India to leave the ground with unpleasent draw.
